One of the perks of being Will's therapist is the fact that Hannibal has access to his personal information, such as his date of birth. That why even if Will never specifically told him, he knows the younger man's birthday happens on June 19th, and that he'll be celebrating his 39th year of life. The doctor is not going to waste an opportunity like this to show Will how much he actually cares, and that he means no harm. Right?
A few days earlier, he sent his friend an invitation, asking him to join him on one of the tables at the east side of the common room. He has prepared a special meal for him, consisting of three courses.
Everything in the meal was especially prepared by Hannibal, from the moment of carefully choosing each ingredient, the meat in particular, to each detail and final touch of the presentation on the plates. Besides the food, he also made him a bouquet of flowers to give to Will as a gift, arranging it according to flower language tradition. It has fern, iris, jonquil, marigold, narcissus and blue violets, all of them perfect to symbolize his relationship with Will.
Eight o'clock promptly arrives, and Hannibal waits for Will, with the plates carefully and elegantly arranged on the table. All the plates are properly covered, to keep them warm and to surprise Will. He's very sure his friend will come, with maybe just a lingering feeling of doubt. But if he knows the younger man well, he's never one to turn down a challenge.

Entrée: Noix de ris de veau rôties à la broche, chou de Savoie truffé, galette de pommes de terre, réduction de banyuls, accompanied with Sancerre white wine.
Main course: boeuf et crevettes avec sauce au curry rouge et noix de coco, petits pois et aubergine, served with Nuits-Saint-Georges red wine
Dessert: glace et tartelette au chocolat sur lit de framboises, with the same white wine from the entrée.
